In the era of ‘Parent Shaming’, online bullying, and everything else that makes parenting one of the most difficult careers on the planet, it’s so important to keep ourselves in check!

With almost too many resources and methods – how can we possibly be the best role models for our children 100% of the time?

“We’re all too familiar with the saying, “do as I say, not as I do”. Remember, our kids are sponges, so we don’t have the luxury of acting one way, then verbally teaching our kids a different lesson to make up for it later. If they see mom or dad do something a certain way, then that’s the way they learn it for themselves.”

According to Life Coach Cory Chadwick, being a better parent starts with YOU! How you behave directly affects the way that your children are going to behave as they grow up! No shocker there right?? BUT you may not realize the direct effect your actions, fears and insecurities have on your developing child. But where to start??

“The first and most important step to take is to take a look in the mirror and just be honest with yourself. Really honest. …..If there’s something about yourself that you don’t want to pass on to you kids, this is your opportunity to do something about it.”

Fixing your own self, according to Cory, can be the first step in raising children that you are not only proud of, but who can flourish in this difficult world.

“Being a great model – setting the right example – can make all the difference between being a child in trouble, one who just gets by, or one who excels. This is all about laying the foundation for your children to live an amazing life, and it starts early.

Think of your child’s life as if you were building a giant skyscrape….There is no such thing as building a second floor out of iron if the first floor is made of playdoh.”

These encouraging changes can not only change your child’s behavior, but it can also have a positive effect on every other aspect of your life!

“When you become a better version of yourself, you impact the world around you and everyone who’s a part of it – especially the ones closest to you. Want to have a better marriage? Work on yourself. Want to be a better parent? Work on yourself. Want to be a better role model? Work on yourself. Want to have a better anything? You guessed it, work on yourself.”
