The first time I heard of the brand Ecco, it was nearly a decade ago. My mother was obsessed with finding orthopaedic shoes and all she could ever talk about was Ecco, so I always associated the brand with nurse shoes and clunky orthopaedics. Well things have certainly changed since then. The latest collection is modern, stylish and chic and in terms of how they feel, its as if you’re walking on two pillowy clouds that weigh as light as a feather. The Danish brand has always emphasized that their products embody functionality in addition to incredible comfort, which may have caused my misinterpretation in the past.
The aesthetic of the entire collection is contemporary and minimal, fitting with its Scandinavian heritage. Ultimately, they’re great shoes for a variety of occasions, but the selling point with them is again how they wear and their unbelievable comfort. The shoes range in stores from $175 for women and $195 for men, and could be purchased at any Ecco stores, in addition to Softmoc, The Bay and Walking on a Cloud.
As I can only speak for the woman’s experience, I firstly have to say that I was quite impressed with the shoes. Unlike with most new shoes, the first time I wore the Ecco sneakers I didn’t have to suffer through the ‘breaking-in’ period. My feet felt at ease, but also very supported. I like to think of these is guilt free shoes, in the sense that they look great and I know I’m not putting my feet through hell for the sake of fashion. In fact, my arches have never felt so supported and I think my posture is improving! I gave the men’s shoes to my husband, and like me he also enjoyed wearing the sneakers. They are very similar in style, but instead of a muted pastel suede, he donned a worn-in brown leather.
I love how many of the styles are quite androgynous, and look great on both of us. He also wore them all day at work, and noticed that they allowed his feet to ‘breathe.’ He stressed that they were wonderfully light-weight, but again like me, provided him with great support and no pain. Ultimately, I would say Ecco shoes are a great investment. Not only as a stylish addition to your closet, but a saviour for your feet.
