It’s become a yearly tradition in our family that every November, when the farm comes to the city, we head down to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair for an afternoon of fun that rarely would our family get to experience living in the hustle and bustle of the city.Now in its 95th year, it’s hard to believe that Exhibition Grounds plays host to so many live animals in what is the world’s largest agricultural and equestrian competition. The sheer volume of cattle, horses and farm animals is hard to imagine and just because these animals have a new home at the Exhibition Grounds from November 3rd to 12th it doesn’t mean that they stop working. Walking through the stables you’ll see the animals at work as if they were still on the farm.
On the Saturday afternoon we visited we were lucky enough to see live show jumping & a dog show as the main hi-lights, but this was in addition to getting to feed and pet sheep’s, lamas, lambs, chickens and goats.
In addition to the above the food options are fantastic and there are many tasters and samplers to try from some of the country’s best local farms.
What I love about the RAWF is you are able to talk to the farmers and learn about how their daily lives end up on your plate or in your refrigerator.
What my children love about the RAWF are the up-close interaction that they are able to have with the animals and let’s not forget about the food!
If you’ve never been before, the RAWF is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening with your family and comes to downtown Toronto every November for 10 days so don’t miss out in 2018.
