The warm weather is upon us and what better than to head off to a neighbourhood park? Not only are these excursions fun, but they are also great opportunities to stimulate your little one’s language.

Here is some vocabulary you can use while playing at the park:
– SLIDE: up, down, 1-2-3 go, weeeee, fast, slow,
– SWINGS: go in, come out, feet in, feet out, push, stop, big push, high, higher, more, all done
– SAND PLAY: shovel, pail, dig, pour, pat, full, empty, fill it up
– BALL PLAY: throw, catch, kick, roll, my turn, your turn
– TUNNELS: Peek-a-boo, I see you, Where is Billy? Where is Mommy?
– SPLASH PADS: wet, dry, water, on, off, towel, cold

Don’t forget to use these KEY words and phrases BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER each activity. It is also a good idea to emphasize the key words. Here is what this might sound like:

Before: Do you want to go on the slide, SLIDE? Ok, let’s go on the SLIDE. During: Up, up, up. 1-2-3 doooown.
After: Wow, the SLIDE was fun! Shall we go on the SLIDE again?
