Imagine a world where you could have any hair thickness, volume, style you desired? Extensions are every girl’s best friend & biggest kept secret. And, everyday people frequently ask many questions which pertain to extensions. How long do they last? Will my hair fall out? How long should they be? How should I take care of them? are a few of the many questions we often hear. Here is all the info you will need to know about extensions, before you invest in them:

WHAT METHOD SHOULD I USE? The beauty industry is forever evolving. With that, comes new technique and methods for extensions which can often leave you confused and wondering which one is the best. However, there is no right answer, as to which one is best. The following needs to be determined (with your stylist) in order to distinguish which method is most appropriate for you:

1) your lifestyle: how much you maintain\style your hair

2) your beauty regiment: Do you have grey hair? Do you colour your hair?

3) What is your natural wave texture? Is your hair straight, curly, etc.

4) What is the texture\density of your hair? If your hair fine, medium, coarse?

5) Preferance: Do you want temporary of semi permanent.

6) Desire: Are you adding for volume, length, colour?

Once all of these are determined then you (with of course the help of your stylist) will have found the appropriate method for you. The following are a list of the most common hair extensions types:

1) Clip in extensions: Temporary method. Custom made wefts with clip attachments. May be used for volume, length, or colour. Recommended to be taken out daily.

2) Tape extensions: Individual pieces of hair bonded to your natural hair with medical grade adhesive. Semi- permanent. May re-use hair between each removal and re-application. May be used to achieve additional, volume, length and to add colours. Bond lies flat to your scalp, as opposed to a cylinder like bond (see fusion description below) Perfect for all hair types, as your stylist can customize bonds for individual use. Excellent for fine hair.

3) Hot-Fusion\ Micro-Link extensions: Both are semi-permanent and are attached to the natural hair with a keratin bond & applied heat (hot fusion), or a silicone coated bead (micro-link.) Can be used on all hair types. Excellent for medium-Fine textured hair. Used to achieve additional volume, length & colours.

4) Braided: Wefts of hair that are attached by a sewing technique to a braid on a client. Semi-permanent method. Excellent for those with thick\coarse hair.

MAINTENANCE? Pain is beauty…right? WIth every investment comes some care. With the guidance of your stylist you will be given all appropriate maintenance tecniques to ensure longevity of your hair extensions. *Never apply heat directly to bond (excess heat may compromise the integrity of the bond) *Always brush hair with an extension looped hair brush (to prevent bruhing bonds) *Tie hair up lightly before bed *Brush hair morning and night to avoid tangles *Love, care and protect your hair extensions as you would your own hair (with 100% human hair) *Use sulphate free products (to prevent detterioration of the bond)

WILL MY HAIR FALL OUT? Unless you’re pulling it out..NO! Once you have determined the right method for you with your stylist, and have been educated on proper care and use you will be fine! Hair loss from extensions is a form of damage, excess pulling, weight on natural hair base, poor application, removal or home care. Have regular check ups with your stylist to ensure your extensions are getting the right love they need.

HOW CAN I GET THE MOST USE OUT OF MY EXTENSIONS? Extensions are most commly used for adding length and volume. But, DID YOU KNOW that they are a wonderful way to add colour to your hair, without having to touch your natural hair? You can use fashion colour, or add a lowlight, whatever your desire is hair extensions are a great way to add colour to your world. They may also be used to change a hair style. If you have an asymmetrical cut and want to even it out, etc. Having a thorough consultation with your stylist can help you determine all of the wonderful benefits you may experience with hair extensions.
