Top ten Day Trips In the GTA

Between the trips to the cottages and camps there is lots to do in the GTA. Here are some of my families favourites, and tips to make the most of them:

1.  Toronto Zoo

This is a great place for small and big kids.  Nice place to walk, see the animals and get on one of the five rides they have.   We love this place every time we go there.  I would suggest spending there a full day, having a little lunch; enjoy the Splash Island, great water play area and the Waterside Theater.

Located  North of Hwy 401 on Meadowvale Road, Toronto.

2.  ROM

For the rainy days this is a place to go.  We really enjoy the section for the kids, where the little ones can play and learn all about the prehistoric and dinosaurs. If you don’t live close by try to take the subway- this is an additional attraction for the kids!

Located  at 100 Queen’s Park, Toronto.

3.  Toronto Centre Island

This one of my favourite day trips. Kids love the ferry and Franklins Garden. The beach is amazing. Don’t forget about the Centreville- the fun never stops there. Kids absolutely love it. It’s a nice island located in the heart of Toronto. Enjoy a family picnic in the park and your day is sure to be great.

4.  Canada’s Wonderland

We are getting season passes so it allows us to go anytime we feel like it. The weekends are very busy and for me we the kids (6 & 3) to wait long time for the rides is not good and no fun. So to avoid the chaos we usually go during the week in the evening for 2-3 hrs. We do 5-6 rides; have little dinner or ice cream. During the weekends we usually go there first thing in the morning to have a splash at the water park or explore the dinosaurs section.

Located  in Vaughan.

5.  Fantasy Fair

Another great solution for the rainy days! Lots of fun rides INSIDE.  Keep an eye our for the special events there . We were very lucky once to meet Strawberry Shortcake.

Located  at  Woodbine Shopping Mall , Etobicoke.

6.   African Lion Safari

It is only an hour outside of Toronto. You can take your car or join a guided bus tour for a one-hour drive through the safari. Kids love to see the monkeys, giraffes, birds, lions and much more from such a small distance. A fun interactive option similar to the zoo.

There is also picnic area, boat tour, and water play area for the kids! Lots to do for you and yours.

Located  in Hamilton.

7.   Lionel’s’ Pony Farm and Petting Zoo.

This is a great petting ZOO open to everyone.  There is no admission fee, however they are accepting donations. My kids love to feed the animals and have a little pony ride. Great option for an afternoon outing.

Located  in Whitchurch-Stouffville.

8.   Kortright Centre for Conservation.

What a great place for everyone who loves Nature! Just to spend a day there to enjoy the nature and have a nice walk through the trail is refreshing. Lots of beautiful trees, nice places for lunching. This conservation offers many activities for the kids to keep them busy.

Located in Woodbridge.

9.   Mill Pond

This is an absolutely beautiful park with nice trails, little playground and pond where you can see geese, ducks and swans.  There is a gazebo and lots of places to seat and have a lunch. It is great place for families and kids.

Located  in Richmond Hill.

10.    Hyde Park

Fantastic place for the whole family! Lots of places to enjoy a picnic or have a nice hike through the trails.  We love the zoo, greenhouses and big playground for the kids! A ‘must do’ this summer!

Located  in Toronto.

***Don’t forget your local splash pad, and the many free festivals in downtown Toronto and at the Conservation Parks. Free or for a small fee there is lots of fun for the entire family during the Summer!!***

Enjoy and happy day-tripping!
