Lots going on this weekend including nature walks, more festivals and special programming at the R.O.M, Metro Toronto Zoo and Toronto Mediatheque! Here’s my list for the weekend.

Last day for the Samko & Miko Warehouse sale is on Sunday. I managed to get to the Etobicoke location and bought sidewalk chalk, Crayola crayons and Eric Carle board games for my 3 year old!

And if you haven’t already seen, you can enter into a draw to win an adorable Skip Hop dog backpack and Bee lunchie!

1. Walking with the Wee Ones at Rouge Park in Scarborough

Saturday June 9 | 9:30- 11:30am | Scarborough

Walking with the Wee Ones at Rouge Park (19 Reesor Road – Hwy 407 & Markham Road)

Learn from parents of 2 youngsters the tips and tricks of walking with the wee ones. Good planning, spontenaiety and imagination all combine to create a happy family outing. Not just for parents and caregivers: all welcome!

Dress for the weather, we walk rain or shine! Trails are natural surface and could be damp or muddy. Wear boots or shoes designed for the trail. Bring binoculars and camera, water and snacks. Plan to arrive 10 minutes ahead of the start time. Bring 1 litre of water (try a reusable bottle) and a snack. Kids on foot and in carriers welcome. Dogs on leash welcome.

2. Summer in the Village in Mississauga

Saturday June 9th | 3-9 pm | Mississauga

Clarkson Village BIA Presents Summer in the Village!

Free activities including an historic walking tour at 3pm, children’s activities 4-6pm, antique car show, and a treasure hunt.

3. Zumba for Sick Kids Fundraiser in Toronto’s East End

Saturday, June 9 | 1- 4 pm | Toronto’s East End

Zumba For SickKids Fundraiser at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall (65 Curzon Street at Dundas St E & Carlaw)

Join us for a fun-filled Zumba afternoon for a wonderful cause! Zumba is an addictive Latin inspired dance fitness program that includes hot and spicy rhythms such as Salsa, Samba, Cumbia, Reggaeton, Bellydance, Bachata, Cha Cha, Soca, Hip Hop, Bollywood and much more! Along with our shakin’, movin’ and groovin’ there will be a bellydance performance and we’ll be doing promotional draws for some fantastic prizes. Come and Zumba with us for a great cause! If you cannot attend the event, but would like to donate, please donate any amount you wish.

Cost: $20 donation (per ticket).

4. World Oceans Day Weekend at Metro Toronto Zoo

June 9 & 10 | Scarborough

At the Metro Toronto Zoo come celebrate World Oceans Day Weekend!

The world’s oceans cover more than 70% of the Earth’s surface and contain approximately 80% of all life on Earth! Join the Toronto Zoo along with others around the world for a creative and fun way to celebrate World Oceans Day and our connection to the sea. Visit our exhibits and special displays that highlight the astonishing diversity of life that exists within our seas!

5. Woofstock at the St. Lawrence Market in Toronto

June 9 & 10 | 10am – 6pm | Downtown Toronto

Woofstock at the St. Lawerence Market

Woofstock is the largest outdoor festival for dogs in all of North America. One year it was beamed around the world on CNN for the entire weekend. Quirky and fun, Woofstock is a free admission non-stop party that takes place at our hip, newly expanded location, the historic St. Lawrence Market Neighbourhood, home to the world-famous food market as well as the dog-friendly Sunday Antique Market.

6. Ancient Rome & Greece Weekend at the R.O.M. in Toronto

June 9 & 10 | Downtown Toronto

At the Royal Ontario Museum you can explore old empires at the Ancient Rome and Greece Weekend!

Learn how these ancient cultures dominated the Mediterranean world and continue to influence our daily lives. See demonstrations and displays of arms and armour, talk to experts, try your hand at Roman archery, make a lucky “bulla”, create your own mosaic masterpiece and learn the game of “knucklebones”.

7. Duffins Creek Spring Fair in Pickering

June 10 | 12– 4:30pm | Pickering

The Duffins Creek Spring Fair (Pickering Museum Village) brings you entertainers, music, wagon rides, kids activities and a steam show. It’s free!

8. Heartland Equestrian in Whitby

June 10 | 1oam – 2pm | Whitby

Heartland Equestrian (Townline & Baldwin St. N)

Bring your family to the third annual Camp Bucko Fundraiser for a free carnival, games, live entertainment, BBQ, Riding shows, and more!

9. Father Figures at Toronto Mediatheque

June 10 | 12:30– 3pm | Downtown Toronto

Father Figures: Special Event for Father’s Day at Toronto Mediatheque

Calling all kids! Show your love and gratitude for all of the greatness your dads do by creating the special gift of an animated e-card in our top-secret, kids-only workshop. Dads and other adults, join us in the NFB Cinema for a special screening program, while our workshop facilitators help participants hone their craft. At the end of the day, everyone will be invited to share their tokens of appreciation on our big screen. Call 416-973-3012 to register today!

10. Downsview Nature Connections in North York

June 10 | 2– 4pm | North York

Downsview Nature Connections at Downsview Park (Allen Road & Sheppard Ave West)

Put a little WILD into your spring! Enjoy a free indoor/outdoor Park program based on nature-themed topics to get you exploring the natural world—starting with Downsview Park! RSVP by email. This Sunday’s theme is butterflies!

Meet at the Discovery Centre, 35 Carl Hall Rd, west side door. It’s free for everyone but kids under 16 should be accompanied by an adult.

11. Family Nature Walk at Rouge Park in Scarborough

June 10 | 9:30- 11:30am | Scarborough

Family Nature Walk at Beare Wetlands, Rouge Park (1749 Meadowvale Road at Zoo Road)

Bring a note pad, a camera, binoculars and your curiosity. Today’s walk will make a friendly inventory of as many things as we can identify. Bring more than 1 sheet of paper, there’s lots to list!
