Every so often, we meet someone who is truly philanthropic – someone who shows genuine concern for humanity, spends time doing charitable events, and donates their time and money.

Lynda Fishman is a philanthropist. She is also a social worker, an inspirational speaker, and the author of Repairing Rainbows. Repairing Rainbows is the story of Lynda’s life after losing her mother and two little sisters in a plane crash when Lynda was just 13 years old.

Lynda endured the pain of writing this book almost forty years later, because she was committed to sharing her personal story and all of the lessons she learned through the years, in the hope that she could help and inspire others faced with tragedy. Finding the strength to relive the deep pain and hurt, Lynda’s story illustrates the same choice she had to make over and over – the choice to live and to seeing the value in learning and growing from life’s most difficult moments and challenges. People faced with tragedy don’t know what to expect. Other than family members, friends, or professionals, the most credible support and information comes from survivors of tragedy. After reading Repairing Rainbows, you can’t help but be inspired and clear on the fact that how you respond to a crisis is a choice.

Repairing Rainbows is a story about choices. It is loaded with strategies, guidance and reassurance, teaching people that while at times life makes no sense, there is always a way, a path, a direction to take back into the world to truly live. These life lessons and advice come from well earned experience of horrific tragedy and the journey Lynda took back to life.

Lynda lives by her simple philosophy about life – the most important thing you can do in your life is to help others. She is a genuine, caring and giving woman, who volunteers her time in the community with an endless number of events and organizations.

Lynda was nominated by her daughter Rebecca, as Walmart’s Mom of the Year. Walmart will award $100,000 to the winner’s charity of choice. Lynda’s charity of choice is the Repairing Rainbows Fund at Mount Sinai Hospital. This Fund supports the Max and Beatrice Wolfe Children’s Centre – the only specialized Centre in Ontario that offers medical and counselling support for children living with the dying and death of a loved one. http://www.mshfoundation.ca/repairing-rainbows
