Humpback Whales at the Ontario Science Centre recently opened, and it took me by surprise! I honestly thought it would be educational and informative, but I assumed it would be a bit dry! When we sat down in the planetarium it had the ceiling light up like stars in the sky and the different speakers display where the sound was coming from. It was really fascinating and both of my kids were so excited. My youngest that is 17 months sat through the whole thing and was captivated. My older one that is 4 1/2 kept asking questions and thought it was so cool! She kept asking me if we were flying.
The Humpback Whales film is narrated by the two-time Golden Globe nominee Ewan McGregor and presented by Pacific Life, Humpback Whales is an unbelievable film that keeps the audience captivated and allows them to feel like they are actually diving into the mysterious sea adventure with these amazing aquatic mammals.
The film does a great job of mixing the musical themes, stunning imagery, and underwater splendour, scientific exploration, and explores what life might be like from the humpback’s point of view. My daughter loved learning about how whales were once hunted and viewed as monsters and almost brought to extinction and the slow com back they are back now that is remarkable!
My daughter walked away saying that whales are awesome! Really, it was fun for the whole family and it is a must see, I would even go back again. The surround sound and planetarium really made it come alive and made it so impactful and real and relate to these mammals. “They are critical to the ecological health and survival to the ecological health and survival of the ocean, and since they are among the largest animals to ever live on earth, there is no better subject for audiences to experience life-size on the giant screen.” says director, Greg MacGillivray.
This film is on how humpbacks were brought back from the brink of destruction to set off a new wave of scientific and human fascination with their one-of-a-kind, gargantuan beauty. This film was a great addition to the science centre, after we continued onto the kids floor and myth busters. It is such a great way for your kids to have an interactive fun day and to learn about science, their bodies, nature, and more.
It is a must see for all audiences big and small! Your kids will be in awe!
