Minister of Education, Liz Sandals gives reasons why this needs to be changed since 1997! Here are the facts…

  1. Ontario updated the sex ed curriculum after 17 years.
  2. Prompts are conversation starters for teachers but, not mandatory as part of the curriculum. In addition, teachers  or student response aren’t mandatory, only when it says expectations in the curriculum manual.
  3. Learning about anal sex & oral sex appropriate in grade 7? Yes, Public health in Ontario states that teen pregnancy rate dropped by 50% since 96 or 97 because of sex ed in schools.
  4. Std’s has gone up approx 50-60%, reported rate of chlamydia in teens up 80% . Kids don’t understand how they can get STD’S
  5. Kids now go through puberty at 8-9 yrs old.  They plan to start talking about puberty in grade 4-6.
  6. By grade 9 & 10, 22% of kids are having sex according to public health data.
  7. Partnerships is between parents & schools. Parents impress values from their own homes, religion, and culture.
  8. Will replace 1998 curriculum
  9. Kids are having sex at a young age! They aren’t just having it they are skipping the bases. The bases are no longer the same as when we were kids. Ask them? I dare you. You will be shocked.
17 years has passed and alot has changed, specifically with the use of technology; sexting, instagram, Facebook, snap chat, twitter etc. Our kids are growing up in a different world full of sex and sexuality!

Miley Cyrus is not innocent and neither are your kids. They are like Madonna wanting to break free. Technology and media can be good and bad. Not only kids but, adults are participating in online forums and being bullied. Kids are being bullied online and in school. They are bullied and peer pressured in more ways then one. But, the internet is a source of information and allows them to educate themselves as well.

It’s like we’re in the 1960’s all over again. Kids think they are entitled. They think of sex as a form of self expression, similar to when we got piercings to express ourselves. It is freedom of expression, and it has become an extension of their identity.

I am scared shitless of what will change in 15 years when my kid will be 20 but, hope the that sex ed changes with it.

But, in my house, my kid is learning NOW! I teach her what is safe and what isn’t. What is a vagina and a penis? She is 4 years old, she is not too young. You know why?

She knows more then I give her credit for because it is splashed everywehere. At a recent doctor checkup she questioned what is the difference between boys and girls because the doctor needed to check her vagina for a rash.

It is our bodies. Kids should learn about it, it is about our health! They need to know what is and appropriate touch and what is not. Boys need to learn about rape and when a girl says no.

We cannot shelter them, we can only give them the tools to make informed decisions and hope they do the right thing!

The new sex ed curriculum is not encouraging your kids to go have sex, it is to prevent them from getting pregnant and STD’S . It will teach them things like, what will happen if they send a naked picture of themselves. It’s damage control!

We hope the kids will abstain until they are adults and ready. I think, let them learn about puberty, body parts, sex etc before they need to know.

Parents should work with the schools! Maybe, we should be like our parents generation and side with the teachers for once not our kids!
