Have you heard of the Wot Wots? Until a few weeks ago I hadn’t. Probably because we don’t have cable at our house and our television time is limited. Since I was invited to go to a DVD release party for the WotWots I had to do some background research into who SpottyWot and DottyWot are. To me these blue and pink characters remind me of a cleaner updated looking version of the Fraggle Rocks. They are super cute to look at and they are pretty easy to like.
Created in New Zealand, The WotWots is a preschool based series that has finally landed in Canada! SpottyWot and DottyWot are engaging siblings who have come from outer space and their steam powered spaceship has landed in a zoo. Together, they explore all that our world has to offer. The show teaches its little viewers to be inquisitive about the world around them, to go and discover what peaks their interest and about friendship and working together. I absolutely love that the show combines the animation of SpottyWot and DottyWot with real live footage of animals and the like to make them identifiable.
The DVD release party was so much fun! It was the first time that Princess Peach was in a movie theatre. It was totally geared towards the kids and getting them into and excited about the WotWots! As the children and their parents arrived, we were treated to yummy (healthy and organic) snacks and tables that were covered with WotWots colouring pages and crayons for our little artists. What a great way to get the kids excited about the WotWots! Princess Peach absolutely loves colouring so this was the perfect starter activity for her.
Then it was time for the big reveal! The screening of an episode from The WotWots newest DVD to come to Canada, Spot a DottyWot. Princess Peach was completely mesmerized by the large screen and of course the WotWots! Princess Peach loves animals and is very into making all sorts of different animal sounds these days. The fact that the WotWots take place at a zoo and features a whole lot of animals made them an instant connection for Princess Peach. I’m not a fan of many children’s shows, but the WotWots are so cute and relatable that I too totally fell for them. After the short screening, the kids (and parents of course) were entertained by a whimsical WotWot show. Actresses holding the puppets danced around and engaged all of the children with some WotWots songs! All of the kids were up and dancing around on the floor with huge smiles on their faces.
After the screening, the children were each given a large loot bag that included either SpottyWot or DottyWot and a copy of the two DVD’s. Each DVD features 7 episodes, each 11 minutes in length. Then it was meet n’greet time where we got to “meet” SpottyWot and DottyWot and take our picture.
So where can you watch the WotWots? Two WotWots DVD’s are available for purchase in Canada; Spot a DottyWot and Stripe a Lotty Wotty (arv $14.99). You can also find the WotWots on the Treehouse channel. Check your local guides for times and channels.
